Aleksander Mikhailovich Rodchenko, Russian, 1891 to 1956, letterpress photomontage illustration from the special double issue of the magazine Molodaya gvardiya dedicated to Lenin, 1924. Aleksander Rodchenko was a Russian and Soviet artist, one of the founders of constructivism and Russian design. He worked as a painter and graphic designer before turning to photomontage and photography. His photography was socially engaged, formally innovative, and opposed to a painterly aesthetic.
